OUR HISTORY

1920

Somapala Kodituwakku become first generation entrepreneur at the age of 21
by venturing into transportation of Oranges to the capital.

1940

Establishes a British Automotive spare parts establishment called Somapala & Co

1960

Second generation takes over with Sugath Kodituwakku becoming Chairman and moves the business towards the Orient with the introduction of Japanese spare parts. Company becomes Orient Commercial Company

1975

Orient Commercial acquires Philips distributorship for Sri Lanka.

1983

Orient Holdings was established to setup a manufacturing joint venture with Clipsal Australia

1995

Third generation takes over with Kushan Kodituwakku and expands Manufacturing with R&D capabilities.

2004

With the acquisition of Clipsal by Schneider the company became independent and the brand switched to Orange Electric (Orient Range becomes O|RANGE).

2017

Relocating manufacturing to OREL Park, a greenfield Project
